Talented Workforce Nominees Point the Way for Manufacturers

 Nominees and recipients gathered for a reception and lively interactive dialogue following the presentation of the four awards for the Talented Workforce Initiative.  Themes included:

  • The need for employers and business groups to reach out aggressively to help counselors understand the growing opportunities and requirements in the manufacturing sector
  • The importance of helping parents learn about the manufacturing sector
  • The need for individual businesses more assertively communicate their needs to educators and to insist on a standards-based approach to preparing workers in both hard skills and soft skills
  • The critical need for employers to visibly engage in community workforce development initiatives
  • The importance of giving hands-on work opportunities to students
